Turkish Land Registry to allow remote transfer of real estate ownership

The application, which allows buyers and sellers in different provinces or countries to perform deed transactions without coming together, will be put into service in all land registry offices as of September 15.

In the statement made by the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, it was reminded that the regulation that allows the contracts aimed at the transfer of real estate ownership to be made in cases where the buyers and sellers are in different land registry offices or abroad, entered into force on January 1.

The statement reminded that the pilot application for the title deed transactions in this scope was initiated on 17 January at the title deed offices of Ümraniye, Çankaya, Büyükçekmece, Kepez, Bayraklı and Bornova and the Berlin representative office, and the application was later expanded.

“Thus, it was ensured that our citizens could operate without leaving their place of residence and interrupting their daily work, preventing time loss and saving expenses such as travel, accommodation, etc. The application also assumed an important task in terms of preventing the spread of the diseases and protecting public health during the pandemic process. The deed transfer procedures of our citizens who could not leave the city they live in took place without delay, “the statement added.

352 transactions have been carried out so far through the application that will be put into service in all land registry offices as of September 15.

Last month, Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum said that real estate deals in Turkey will no longer need paper title deeds as the country has decided to go paperless in property sales.
